Medical Marijuana FAQ

Cannabis Faq - Doctor Springs medical information

Dr. Julia Springs at Doctor Springs answers the most common questions about medical marijuana certification, treatment, and the legal process in Florida.

Getting Your Card

You need an evaluation from a certified medical marijuana physician like Dr. Julia Springs. During your appointment, the doctor reviews your medical history and qualifying condition. If approved, your certification is entered into the state registry, and you can then apply for your official card.

Most evaluations take 15–30 minutes. Dr. Springs takes the time to understand your condition, discuss treatment options, and answer your questions. Patients with an active Florida ID or Driver's License are approved and able to shop immediately following your appointment!

Medical records documenting your qualifying condition are helpful but not always required. If you do not have records available, Dr. Springs can discuss alternative options during your visit.

  • First-time patients: must be seen in person

  • Returning patients (recertifications): can typically use telehealth/video visits

Florida law requires an initial in-person exam, but follow-ups can be done remotely for convenience.

Costs and Insurance

The evaluation fee is paid directly to Doctor Springs. There is also a separate state application fee. Contact our office at (813) 485-5954 for current pricing. We strive to keep our fees competitive and transparent with no hidden costs.

Medical marijuana is not currently covered by insurance. However, many patients find that cannabis reduces their overall healthcare costs by decreasing the need for other medications.

Using Your Card

With your card, you can purchase from any state-licensed dispensary in Florida. Dispensaries carry a variety of products including flower, oils, tinctures, capsules, topicals, and edibles. Dr. Springs' helpful staff will assist with finding the best and closest dispensaries to you!

Doctor Springs provides personalized dosing guidance and product recommendations based on your condition, symptoms, and treatment goals. We also help you navigate dispensary options to find what works best.

Medical marijuana laws vary by state. Your Florida card is valid within Florida only, and products dispensed in Florida should not be taken outside the state via any method of travel or delivery. Some states offer reciprocity for visiting patients. Cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, so air travel with marijuana is not recommended.

Renewals

Certifications need to be renewed every 210 days (About 7 months) per Florida’s requirements. Your Card is renewed once a year with the state of Florida via their website. Doctor Springs sends renewal reminders so your access is never interrupted.

Renewals can be completed via telehealth, and are shorter and less expensive than your initial evaluation. Dr. Springs reviews how your treatment is working and adjusts recommendations as needed.
